The Longaberger Basket Company building in Newark, Ohio might just be a strangest office building in the world. The 180,000-square-foot building, a replica of the company’s famous market basket, cost $30 million and took two years to complete. Many experts tried to persuade Dave Longaberger to alter his plans, but he wanted an exact replica of the real thing.

A space-age structure was chosen to go along with the 1962 fair’s theme, Century 21.There are 848 steps from the bottom of the basement to the top of the Observation Deck.The foundation weighs 5,850 tons and there are 250 tons of reinforcing steel in the foundation.The Needle weighs alone 3,700 tons.The center of gravity for the Space Needle is 5 feet above the ground.The Space Needle is fastened to its foundation with 72 bolts, each 30 feet in length.The Space Needle is 605 feet high and 138 feet wide at its widest point.It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 miles per hour.

It remained among the top ten tallest buildings in New York until 1970. Today, as the sixth tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and 27th tallest in New York City, it is still among the most prominent buildings in the city skyline.
